We Built Glitch City- Lessons learned by LA’s indie dev collective

The practice of creators banding together to support each other is nothing new — artists, writers and artisans have been doing it for centuries. But it’s somewhat new to game development, and among the practice’s pioneers are a group of L.A.-based indie developers who have united under the banner of Glitch City, a development collective they jokingly spoke of at GDC Next today as the “indie Voltron.” Glitch City was founded in early 2013, when a group of indie game makers signed a two-year lease on a commercial space in Culver City and established a permanent coworking space for game makers. Donut County developer and Glitch City cofounder Benjamin Esposito says he started taking the idea of an "indie …

Game Developers React To Google Stadia's Surprise Shutdown

Google’s announcement of Stadia shutting down early next year took many people by surprise, including several games developers who planned to release their titles on the cloud streaming service. GTA 6 Could Prompt A Shift To More Expensive Games

The price tag for new video games should go up, according to a Baldur’s Gate 3 developer. But Michael Douse, director of publishing for Larian Studios, believes the industry is in a holding pattern until Grand Theft Auto VI raises the starting entry fee from $70 to something higher.

On X, Douse started discussing the price of new video games while sharing a screenshot of what’s available in the expensive Ultimate Edition of Star Wars Outlaws. The Larian Studios executive bemoaned “vague content promises” to validate a high price point, adding that a title should be priced “accordingly with its quality, breadth, [and] depth.” However, Douse then explained that most new games should be charging more at this point.

Assassin's Creed Liberation HD Delisted On Steam, But It Will Remain Playable

The Steam page of Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD was quietly updated to say that the game is no longer available for purchase. Though it initially appeared access would also be lost for those who purchased the game, this is actually not the case.

Liberation is technically still to buy available on Steam, as a remaster of the game was packaged with the Assassin’s Creed III remaster. However, considering that title’s $40 price tag, and a hefty install size, a large portion of which will go untouched if you are only interested in playing Liberation, it’s hard not to imagine the potential complaints.

GameSpot reached out to Ubisoft, which clarified its policy and said it will be updating its storefront language to reflect this.
