Mexico´s Hernandez out of Olympics

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez will not feature for Mexico at this year s Olympic Games, the club confirmed on Thursday.

The 23-year-old represented his country at the 2010 World Cup prior to his first season at Old Trafford while, last summer, he shone for his country in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, ending as the tournament s top goalscorer.

Hernandez, who was called up as one of Mexico s three players over the age of 23, had also been linked with carrying the nation s flag at the opening ceremony.

But United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes the forward has shown fatigue in his second campaign and has insisted that a full rest this summer will be beneficial.

His form last season was fantastic. He s found the second year more difficult, but a lo…

Foyth, Ocampos miss out as Scaloni calls Alvarez into Argentina Copa squad

Argentina left Juan Foyth and Lucas Ocampos out of their Copa America squad as Lionel Scaloni finalised his plans for the tournament in Brazil.

Scaloni made a last-minute adjustment as Bayer Leverkusen forward Lucas Alario was ruled out by injury and River Plate rising star Julian Alvarez took his place, .

The omissions of Foyth, who on Friday sealed a move from Tottenham to Villarreal, and Sevilla winger Ocampos, may be held up to scrutiny later.

However, Scaloni chose a 28-man squad packed with pedigree as Argentina attempt to conquer the Copa America for the first time since 1993, with Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Lautaro Martinez giving the Albiceleste a formidable forward line.

Argentina face Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia in Group B of the…

Milan and Benfica vying for Damiao

Brazilian newspaper that AC Milan and Benfica are in the race to sign Santos striker Leandro Damiao.

The Brazilian giants hope to cash in on the highly rated forward and use the money to sign new players, and they have less than a week before the transfer window closes in Europe.

According to Lance!, AC Milan and Benfica are hot on the trail of the 25-year-old footballer, although neither side are prepared to match his €1.5 million yearly wage.

For the time being, Damiao is not prepared to agree to a pay cut and this is likely to prove a major obstacle to any deal.

Leandro Damiao joined Santos from Internacional in December 2013 and has since bagged 6 goals in 21 league outings.

The 2012 Summer Olympics top scorer has failed to make Brazil Wor…

Rangers chasing ´perfect ten´

Rangers will make it a perfect 10 out of 10 if they can defeat visitors Inverness Caledonian Thistle in their Scottish Premier League clash at Ibrox on Saturday.

Last week s 3-1 victory in the first Old Firm derby of the season maintained Walter Smith s side s 100 per cent winning start to their league campaign to set a new SPL record.

The Gers are unbeaten in 15 matches in all competitions this season as they have made their best start to a season since 1921.

However, with a midweek game against away to Valencia to follow their match against Inverness manager Smith is concerned that his small squad will struggle to cope with the demands of competing on both fronts.

The size of our squad may determine ultimately, depending on injury and suspension, how …

Griezmann doesn´t regret ´La Decision´ and insists he can repair the damage

Antoine Griezmann insists he does not regret the Decision documentary that revealed he was rejecting Barcelona last year and is convinced he can repair any damage caused with his efforts on the pitch for the Blaugrana.

Barca had been strongly linked with a move for Griezmann in 2018 and were even reported to have struck an agreement with him, as Atletico reported the Catalan club to FIFA at the end of 2017.

The prolonged saga reached its conclusion with a documentary following Griezmann as he made up his mind about whether to move or stay in Madrid, with the clip produced by Gerard Pique s production company.

In the end he revealed his choice was to remain and sign a new five-year contract at Atletico, but 13 months later he became a Barca player after his …

Everton managerial candidate Pereira: ´If they want me, they must call me´

Vitor Pereira has confirmed he has been interviewed by Everton over the vacant managerial position and declared: If they want me, they must call me.

Everton sacked Rafael Benitez earlier in January after a dismal run of one win in 13 league games left them six points above the relegation zone.

That cushion has now been reduced to four points after Everton lost to Aston Villa on Saturday, with Duncan Ferguson having taken interim charge.

A host of names have been linked with the job, though all with vastly different profiles. Former Toffees boss Roberto Martinez, sacked in 2016, was an initial candidate, but the Belgian FA rebuffed Everton s approach.

Fabio Cannavaro is also said to have been interviewed, similarly Frank Lampard. Wayne Rooney, meanwhile,…
